Vallehermoso, the "beautiful valley", is the ideal holiday
location for those looking for silence and relaxation. Hikers coming
to Vallehermoso are amazed of the beautiful paths, that are a quiet
tip in the hiker scene. Impressing mountains, fairy woods and a
rough coast are the natural barriers for Vallehermoso.
The guard and symbol of Vallehermoso is roque cano, a huge rock
rising upon the village, a long time ago the first volcano of la
Gomera. |

The
pico del teide on tenerife is the biggest mountain of spain and
seems to be in reach from here, but tenerife´s hectic is far,
far away. The years left Vallehermoso without a trace. The times,
when agriculture was a big profit for this valley are long gone.
But little supermarkets, restaurants, banks and even a cybercafé
assure the visitor to be in 21st century. The villagers, considering
such modernity, stay calm: Still there´s time enough for having
a chinwag and the strangers are warmly welcome for a chat. |

Passing the village way south, the green soul of La Gomera expects
the hiker: The national park Garajonay is for sure a fairy forest.
Moss-covered gnarled trees combing the humidity from the trade winds.
Lichen, moss and ferns covering the soft grounds and trunks. |

The rough north shore once was the reason for the seclusion of vallehermoso.
The atlantic slams the rocks, and only the Castillo del Mar, long
ago a banana embarcation station, now a unique café and cultural
centre, stands the force of the waves.
Nearby you find the parque marítimo: All-year open salt water
pools and a restaurant for those looking for relax and sun after
a long days hike.
One more attraction at the beach of Vallehermoso since Summer 2005:
Wanderers found humain bones in a small cave... Not a pirate's grave,
neither one of General Franco's victims, said anthropologists of
Gran Canaria: It is the first grave of aborigines found at a beach
of Gomera, more then 1500 years old! |
